Distributors Terminal Corporation upgrades warehouse management system for improved customer service

Manufacturers, especially those in the food and automotive industries, will benefit from the advanced warehouse management system (WMS) recently installed by Distributors Terminal Corporation (DTC) at its Terre Haute facility. The third party logistics (3PL) company provides warehousing, transportation and value added services such as order fulfillment and vendor managed inventory. The company will go live with the system this month.

"The logistics demands of our clients are highly complex," said Andy Hendricks, DTC's Director of Logistics. "The new Cadence WMS gives us the ability to bring order to even the most complicated supply chain. Cadence software allows us to improve efficiencies across our logistics platform, taking DTC's high level of customer service to a whole new level."

The Cadence WMS was developed by Cadre Technologies, the largest software provider to the 3PL logistics industry, with more than 200 customers in North America. It expands all in-warehouse communications capabilities to integrate speech, bar-code scanning, voice-directed radio frequency and browser-based text capabilities on one mobile, hand-held computer.

"Each worker in our warehouse will carry a hand-held computer utilizing bar coding to record every movement of a client's product," said Hendricks. "Through the Cadence WMS, DTC will more efficiently capture in-house warehousing activities, which in turn will bring value to our relationship with the client."

Additionally, clients have real-time, 24/7 access via the Internet to place orders, check inventory, and get the status of all activities. Hendricks explained that with this access, clients will be able to track their product's movement through each step in the warehouse, from receiving, through put away, picking and ultimately shipping.

"Our new Cadence warehouse management system gives DTC the ability to track very specific information," said Hendricks. "Of particular importance to the food industry, we can track not only lots, but also production dates and expiration dates, a key quality control feature. In combination with our climate-controlled, AIB-superior rated warehouse facility, Cadence WMS makes DTC an ideal logistics partner to this industry."
